A week later
The boys (who are 2 cats and 1 parakeet), the plants, and I have been here in our new home for almost a week now. Simultaneously I am pulled by the paradoxical sensibilities "a week already" and "only a week".
I am slowly and intentionally unpacking. I clean areas before unloading things. I get things out when I need them, which helps to affirm the value of the items I own. If I never need them and they have no clear sentimental worth, then I will get rid of them. Scale back, scale back, scale back.
Though, paradoxically I am acquiring new things - a step ladder for reaching high places, an air mattress because I have no bed. A broom to sweep up messes. Plants, because they are irresistible, beautiful and add more life to my home.
I met the maintenance staff - three generations of men from the same family. They are great, friendly, funny fellows.
