Tea for, "Sorry liver, and thanks for getting rid of that junk."

My very fine fellow went out with a friend last night. Amidst all the talking, they also ingested copious alcohol. My fellow reports, "The tequila is what did it. 2 shots and 'that's it, time to go home."
This morning he is still feeling it, well when he is not dozed off.
I blended him up an herbal infusion intended to help his liver detoxify his system efficiently. After some research and review of qualities of plants and what the body is experiencing as it tries to deal with the alcohol, I chose the following herbs:

  • German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) - to sooth the nervous system, support the digestive system - especially serving as a mild bitter to get that bile flowing, also chamomile has pain-relieving properties
  • Mint (Mentha spp.) -to sooth the digestive system, help deal with any nausea he may experience, help alleviate his headache, plus it is excellent at alleviating foul taste in mouth or stomach, and mint is a diaphoretic (opens poors, stimulate sweat) which helps get those toxins out of the system
  • Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) - a circulatory stimulant, it will get his blood flowing, which helps moves the toxins toward removal, helps alleviate any gas or bloating, or digestive system discomfort (including nausea), gentle diuretic qualities, which also will help with toxin removal - though he will need to be well and truly hydrated to replace those fluids, another bitter to stimulate the liver, and it has other qualities that protect and support the liver
  • Rosemay (Rosemarinus officinalis) - to support the nervous system, diaphoretic and diuretic properties to support toxin removal, supports the liver (who is doing the lion's share of work in dealing with that pesky alcohol) by supporting bile flow (go liver, go liver!), circulatory stimulant to move the blood to bring healing to cells and clear out the unwanted gunk, and also supporting the digestive system. (Wow, rosemary, you are a big help).
After steeping the above herbs in a ceramic teapot for 20 minutes (with a tea cozy to keep the water warm and support extraction of constiuents), I poured him a cup, added some honey for sweetness and lemon for tartness, and the extra-vitamin C, and encourage him to sip it until it was gone.

He dutifully took a sip, his face lit up, "mmm this is good."
I made him some toast with butter and jam to go with the tea. Now he is sleeping soundly while his liver does the work.

I also set up the essential oil diffuser with lavender (Lavendula spp.) oil. The diffuser wafts the air with lavender infused aroma, which soothes the nervous systems and fosters calm.

I blended beeswax salve with a drop of lavender essential oil and a drop of peppermint essential oil, which I then rubbed into his temples. The result is relaxing and soothing, helping to alleviate headache pain and support the nervous system, both by topical absorbtion through the skin and aromatherapy (inhaling the scent).
I also rubbed some beeswax salve mixed with peppermint oil onto his scalp, to intensify the headache relief.

I am really pleased to be able to provide some helpful support and have enjoyed the research and herbal preparation. This is my very most favorite way to use my skills. I have learned so much. Yay for herbs!
