Yesterday was a day focused on wellness - finding a path, making strides, embarking on a journey of wellness. About a month ago I made an appointment with a Holistic / MD. I have lived in my current abode 3 years 8 months, but I had never found a doctor. I am not a fan of mainstream American medicine and its pervasive prescription culture. Rather I am moved by the treat the whole person philosophy of various alternative practices (massage, chiropractic, naturopath, dietician, etc..)
Since moving to my current abode I have experienced a couple major health issues personally, and was even hospitalized briefly. I was not satisfied with the approach, philosophy, diagnosis along that journey.
So, I finally actively sought out a practitioner who is at least open to a wider view of health. (After my initial visit, I will settle for this doctor, I still feel he is a bit 'prescribe' focused rather than preventative, but, given my environ, it may the best I can get.)
Yesterday I had the visit, discussed some ongoing health concerns (migraines! do I have a thyroid issue) and left with some resources and next steps, along with a prescription for some supplements found helpful for preventing migraines (all of which I am already taking, so I am on track with my research and self-care; yay me. Listen to the body, read the research, explore the vitamins and minerals which may be deficient in the body and causing problems has been my approach heretofore, and i am affrimed@!)
Today I made follow-up appointments with some practitioners recommended. Next week I have a thermography appointment. Thermography is heat sensitive technology used as an alternative to mammograms. I have been planning to have a thermography for a couple months, but could not find a technologist closer than 2 states away. Happily the new Doc referred me to an office 1 town over!!
Next week I will also have my very first accupuncture appointment. I admit I am nervous and excited in not quite equal measure. I am afraid all the pin pricks will hurt. I don't know what to expect, and i don't know anyone who has accupunture done, so it is all new new new.
I have also moved from intention to action regarding meditation.
I am enjoying the empowering journey to wellness, and the depths of strength, bravery, open-mindedness and optimism I am finding in myself.
My colorful current knitting project reflects the mood - bright, bold, soft and flexible.
