Blue sunrise

I love a snowy morning, especially when the transformation from dull greens and browns to landscape of white happens unexpectedly overnight.  I awake unsuspecting, peer out the window and am taken aback anew each time.  Snow, the magical precipitation. Predawn the street lamps give an amber glow to the world, soft quiet and insulated.  As the sun rises, the air is transformed to a luminescent blue unlike any other color on offer.  Light plays against the soft light loose snow crystals.  By mid-morning the blue has shifted to a whiteness tinged with soft greys.  The snow continues to fall and flutter and whirl landing lightly on bare branch, spruce bough and blanketed ground alike.  I sit and watch feeling an elation inspired by beauty, cold, and magic.
